Anup was born in June 1984, in the Kolhapur, Maharashtra. His early childhood went in Kagal & Highschool-College in Nipani. His father Dr. N.D. Jatratkar was renowned professor of Sociology at Devchand College, Arjunnagar, Kolhapur. His mother Mrs. Rajani Jatratkar also a renowned High-School Teacher of English at Yashwantrao Ghatage High-School, Kagal. Due to such academic environment & Sociology-English books around, he moulds likewise. Impact of this one can observe in his every work either audio-visual or literary !
His Role Model is his elder brother Mr. Alok Jatratkar, who is now serving at Shivaji University, Kolhapur, as PRO & prior to this, used to work at Mantralaya, Mumbai. And was selected from competitive exam where he was ranked top. Also he was Topper for Twice in M.A. Journalism & Mass Communications, Shivaji University, Kolhapur. For many times Anup admitted that, he started to write by watching his brother writing articles, stories & poetries. He is not only role model but Anup's harsh critic also !
He started to work in short films from the year 2005. Since then he has made many short films, as writer-director. He started his own production house, titled, "An Anup Jatratkar Multi-Media Productions", through which short films, documentaries, dramas, advertisements have been done.
He was the one, to whom; we can consider the pioneer of three things in short film industry of southern Maharashtra & Northern Karnataka. That three things are :
He started the Premiere Shows of short films on large scale, like commercial films. In 2006 he took his first premiere show of his first short, "Shikaar" in Nipani & in 2008, at Kolhapur of "Epiphany of Galileo".
For the first time in the history of short films, sequel of any short film have been done, under the name of "Smoking Zone", in the year 2015, which is the sequel of "Epiphany of Galileo". Till date no one has made the sequel of a short film.
While he was writing the script of "Smoking Zone", he was asked for DVD Rights to be sold. It was the first short film, of which DVD rights were legally get purchased. Along with "Smoking Zone"; "The Promise", a mile stone short film by An Anup Jatratkar Multi-Media Production, the DVD rights were also get purchased.
His short film journey still continues with difference & conviction.
PASSION-PATIENCE-FOCUS is the formula of Anup's journey.
Now he is doing not only shorts but also now he is focusing on Commercial Feature Film Making. Till date he has wrote six screenplays for Marathi Feature Films. And now he is directing two Marathi feature films.

While learning B.A. (English) first year, he took admission at IGNOU, New Delhi for Diploma In Creative Writing In Hindi (D.C.H.) & to YCMOU, Nashik, for B.A. in Hindi to understand Hindi Literature-Grammer & proper Lahejaa of Language.
When he was in last year of M.A. (English) he took admission at YCMOU, Nashik for B.A. in Marathi & Psychology.
After completing his Masters degree, he took admission to Gemini Studio, Andheri (E), which is affiliated to Mumbai University, for Diploma In Film & Television Direction (D.I.D.)

“Panchaganga: The Journey from Sangama to Sangama” got award in Maharashtra government’s “Vasundhara Film Festival-2012”.
“The Promise” got 14 awards, 21 Excellence Certificates & 32 Nominations in various film festivals.
